A Study of Islam - Comparing Islam to Christianity
We have been told by the news media that Islam means peace. This is
absolutely not true. Islam means "submission". A true Muslim is an
individual who is "submitted to Allah". The prophet of Islam, Mohamed
showed this concept by forcing large numbers of peoples to "submit" to
Islam by the sword.
Christians are those who are associated to Jesus Christ as His
followers.
Islam claims that Abraham and Moses are prophets of Islam.
Christianity claims that Abraham and Moses are the two major leaders of
Israel who were men of God and who served God. Christians are "sons of
Abraham" by faith in Christ Jesus.
Islam claims that Christ is a good man, He is not God and he is a
prophet of Allah! Thus the purpose of the life of Christ was to point
his people to Allah!
Christians claim that Christ is the Messiah and that He is God of very
God.
It is interesting to note the God of Abraham and Moses. Both Moses and
Abraham speak of God by the following names: Elohim, YHWH, Adonai.
Each of these names reveals some of the Character and work of God.
Elohim speaks of the Mighty God of Heaven. YHWH speaks of the
self-existent "I Am" who is a covenant keeping God. Adonai speaks of
God who is sovereign and Lord over everything.
It is likewise interesting that Christ, who is supposedly the prophet of
Allah never mentioned Allah. In fact, Christ claimed to be God
throughout the NT. In fact, 300 passages of the OT were fulfilled in
the earthly birth, life and death of Christ the Messiah. John 10:28-30
and John 17:4-6 are two passages which clearly state the fact that
Christ is God. In fact, in John 17, Christ claims to be the "I Am".
There are hundreds of other passages that could be listed.
Thus; when Abraham, Moses and Christ speak of God, they speak of Adonai,
YHWH and Elohim.
In the midst of 600 AD, Mohamed showed upon the world scene forcing
people to submit to Allah. He began teaching the true religion, Islam.
Galatians 1:1-10 would be interesting to study in relation to a god
other than the God of the Bible.
The Islamic Holy book is the Quran (Koran). Koran means recitations.
These recitations were given by an angel to the writer of the Koran.
Political and Social Teachings do not come from the Koran. One man
wrote the Koran in about 600 A.D.
The god of Islam is Allah. The Shahada which is similar to the
Shamah of Israel states: "Allah is God and Mohamed is His Prophet".
Allah is a god of judgment. No grace, No mercy, No love.
Allah is so holy that no man could ever approach him apart from the
Khomainis or other religious leaders. Allah does not love his
people. The Muslim submits to Allah to try and
hold back the judging arm of Allah.
The Bible, the Word of God. 40 men wrote the Bible over a period
of 1,500 years. The Bible was given to men who were respected as
prophets and leaders of the people of God. The Bible was given by
the Holy Spirit, who breathed the Word.
Yhwh, the God of Israel and Christians. The Shamah speaks of Him,
"Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one LORD." Deut. 6:4
Yhwh is: Just, Merciful, Full of Grace, Righteous and Love.
The Christian trusts Christ as Savior and is called to walk in "newness
of life". Man's destiny is dependent upon God's grace at
work in a man's life, not a man working for Salvation.
.
Muslims believe the following about Jesus Christ:
Christ did not die on the cross. Christ was able to sneak away and go
back to god. Judas actually was the one who died upon the cross.
Mohammed is greater than Christ. Christ is not God, Christ is a
prophet of Allah.
Salvation among Muslims is a result of religious works that please
Allah. Man's ultimate salvation is a mixture of works to please Allah
and Fate!
Christians believe the following about Christ:
Christ is God. He is the Creator. John 1:1-3. Christ died on
the Cross and arose from death 3 days later. Christ is part of the
Triune God which includes the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
There is no one greater than the Lord Jesus Christ, (Hebrews).
Salvation among Believers takes place when one realizes that He/She are
sinners and that Jesus Christ died for them on the cross. They simply
respond to His offer of grace and the Lord gives to them salvation, Eph.
2:1-10.
The Five Pillars of Islam
1. They must recite the Shahadah each day. The Shahadah states: "Allah
is god and Mohammed is his prophet".
2. 5-prayers are given each day. These times of prayer are to find the
individual praying, prostrate toward Mecca.
3. Almsgiving is an important part of Islam. The individual Muslim is
required to give 5% of his income.
4. Fasting during Ramadan. This fasting takes place during the daylight
hours during Ramadan. After sundown and until the rising of the morning
sun, feasting may take place. This period of fasting "atones" for their
sins that have been committed during the year.
5. Every Muslim must make at least 1 (one) pilgrimage to Mecca during
his lifetime. Failure to make this pilgrimage will cause their loss of
eternal paradise.
Finally, in true, fundamental Islam, there is a 6th pillar of Islam that
is not practiced by all Muslims. This 6th pillar is JIHAD or (Holy
War). JIHAD states that it is the sacred duty of every Muslim to
murder anyone who does not embrace Islam.
Remember, Islam does not mean peace, Islam means to "submit". Those who
are Islamic are called Muslims, which means "those who submit".
